Weighted Average Calculator

By Jim Frost Leave a Comment

Use this weighted average calculator to find the weighted mean when different values in your dataset carry different levels of importance. Enter your values and their corresponding weights in the table, either by typing directly or pasting from a spreadsheet. You can have up to 300 rows and the table will automatically expand when pasting. Click Calculate to see the weighted average based on your data.

The calculator displays the weighted average, the number of valid value-weight pairs, and the sum of weights. It also provides a step-by-step breakdown of the formula, showing how it calculates the weighted mean. Use this weighted average calculator to analyze datasets where some values contribute more than others. Additional information about using, interpreting, and finding weighted averages is below the calculator. See all my Statistical Calculators!

For more information about understanding the reasons for using weighted means, read my article about Weighted Average: Formula & Calculation Examples.

You can also use this calculator to find the expected value for a discrete random variable. To do that, enter all possible outcomes in the Values column and their corresponding probabilities in the Weights column. Ensure that all probabilities sum to 1 exactly.
