Standard Error Calculator

By Jim Frost Leave a Comment

Use this standard error calculator to find the standard error of the mean (SEM) for your data. Just enter or paste your values in the data box, separated by commas or spaces, and click Calculate. You can copy and paste from a spreadsheet. This tool works with sample data and automatically computes the sample standard deviation and the standard error for your dataset.

The calculator displays the standard error, sample size, sample standard deviation, and mean in a results table. It also shows a step-by-step solution for the SEM using clear mathematical notation and generates a histogram to visualize the data’s distribution. Use this standard error calculator to quickly understand the precision of your sample mean. Additional information is below the calculator. See all my Statistical Calculators!

This calculator finds the standard error of the mean, which is the standard deviation for the sampling distribution of the mean. It helps you understand how close your sample mean is likely to be to the population mean. Lower values indicate more precise sample estimates.

Learn more about interpreting and calculating this statistic in my article, Standard Error of the Mean. SEM is crucial in inferential statistics because it helps construct Confidence Intervals and Finds P-values.
