Attribution bias is a cognitive bias that refers to the systematic errors people make when explaining the causes of behavior or events. It often leads people to overemphasize personal characteristics and underestimate situational factors when judging others, while sometimes excusing their own behavior by blaming circumstances.
For example, if someone cuts you off in traffic, you might assume they are rude or reckless (personal cause), but if you cut someone off, you might justify it by thinking you were late or distracted (situational cause).
